Growth.

Fear keeps you stuck.

People stay in places they aren’t meant to because they are afraid.
I’ve seen this in my friends and family.
I’ve seen this in myself.
Fearfully clinging to painful places that feel safe, but are really just familiar.

Imagine if all things stayed in familiar places just because that’s all they ever knew:
Baby birds in a nest.
Caterpillars in a cocoon.
Seeds in the dirt.

No flight. No beauty. No fruit.
No growth.

Choosing fear will keep you from becoming all you were made to be.

Is it worth it?

Growing might feel like dying.
But keep going.

Choose growth.

Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,
It remains by itself.
But if it dies,
It produces much fruit.
— John 12:24

Editor’s Note:

This is an excerpt from a reflection I wrote my last day in Boston.
I didn’t really feel ready to leave, but Boston no longer felt like home. It hadn’t for a while.
Do you know how confusing it is when your home doesn’t feel like home anymore?
It was strange and I didn’t know how to be excited for the move, so I gave myself this pep talk.

I’m grateful for the friends who helped me get excited for change when fear felt most appropriate.
Their excitement for my growth, despite their own sadness, helped me make peace with my decision.
